They're not required to be factual but there does need to be some hint of them in the show. There was no indication of Kelly handing Diana off to anyone. She had Diana precisely because she didn't trust any organization with her. HW would be no better than the resistance (whatever happened to them) in her eyes.
Really, you cannot see mama Kelly giving Nick Diana? Kelly gave Nick to Marie. If Kelly was willing to trust Juliette to come home, why would she not trust Nick to raise Diana? Kelly at the end told Nick to raise her grandson. In fact, mama Kelly and Aunt Marie seemed supportive of Nick being with Adalind and Diana in "The End".

Renard knew in the third episode that Diana was with someone connected to Meisner. He learned HW was recruiting Nick long before he was approached by BC. If Renard’s objective was really about getting Diana, and not a political power grab, why didn’t he tell Nick that Meisner took Diana the same night HW took Juliette? Why didn’t Nick react in a way that indicated he wanted to reunite Diana with Adalind when she told him Renard knew where Diana was and Meisner almost immediately confirmed HW had her?
Nick was more worried about Adalind, baby Kelly and BC when he heard about Diana was at HW. If Meisner had told Nick and Adalind before Sean was committed to BC then IMO Nick and Adalind and scooby gang would have put pressure on Meisner. Once Diana saw her family, HW would not be able to keep her.

In the helicopter how would Meisner go to Europe or any far distance. It makes a whole lot more sense he gave Diana to another HW operative. Meisner would not want to sever ties with the resistance but if they were expecting Diana and did not get her I doubt they would be happy about it.
Women characters do not have to be having sex with the lead to be important to the story.
