I think the whole idea of Hexenbiests having spirits that are somehow separate from their own bodies is needlessly convoluted. (Sort of like how G&K had Nick suffering from zombie-itis, only to drop the subplot altogether).
Hexenbiests are simply Wesen who are naturally inclined to be malicious. That's it. The scene where Adalind's "Hex-self" detached from her body after taking the Hexenbiest suppressant is just another concept the writers introduced, then abandoned.
