It's just a rumor, but I heard Mary Mastrantonio is not interested in doing the show any longer. So, "The Law of Sacrifice" may be the last episode we see her in.
Ah, that is a pity. I like the character of Kelly -- as a Grimm, she's completely different in mentality than Nick is. But I can see how Trubel would work as a suitable replacement, albeit one of another temperament.
@GrimminFlorida1 -- A cousin would be just as interesting as a sister, since neither character has much in the way of family. If Trubel is Nick's cousin, she'd probably be from his mother's side of the family since there was never any mention of Nick's father Reed having powers (as far as I remember; could be wrong since it's been a while since I watched certain episodes). So that would leave either Marie Kessler (Aunt Marie) or Nick's (so far) unseen maternal uncle as Trubel's parent.
Personally, I'd prefer Marie as the mother and Farley Kolt as the father, although there are some timing issues to consider, as well as unavoidable logic holes for such a fan theory. I'll do my best to step around them. Ahem. *nerd glasses on* Theresa Rubel, a.k.a. Trubel, was born in April 1993. Nick lost his parents when he was twelve, in March 1994. When this happened, Marie broke up with her fiance, Farley, to take care of Nick. If Trubel is the daughter of Marie and Farley, she would've been a year old by the time Marie had to raise Nick.
I'll try an approach this from a Watsonian explanation rather than a Doylist one (in other words, what could justify this from the characters' perspectives and not just me saying "writers made it so" -- "in-universe" as opposed to "out-of-universe").
Now why would Marie have not also raised her own daughter?
Any number of possible reasons could exist. Her child might have been sent away for safety. Other Grimm disapproved of Marie's relationship with a Steinadler. Apparently Grimm/Wesen relationships are Things That Do Not Happen. Alternatively, Marie could have hidden her pregnancy and given birth in secret, an admittedly implausible choice considering she would have to be off the radar of her family and her fiance for months to do so. There is also the chance that her child might have been stolen away (for revenge-y reasons, family disapproval, etc). Or she could have decided that it was best if Grimm stick with Grimm and Wesen stick with Wesen -- she would raise Nick and Farley would raise their daughter. Maybe Farley just decided to take his daughter rather than share custody, figuring than an child of a Grimm/Wesen union would lean toward a beastly nature. Basically, there are a lot of ways this could happen, some more plausible than others.
But wouldn't Nick remember his aunt having a child?
Not if she wasn't in constant contact with Kelly's family, no. And Marie could have hidden a pregnancy due to any number of reasons, including the aforementioned prejudice against Grimm/Wesen relationships.
Why wouldn't Farley or Marie have mentioned a cousin to Nick?
Farley has been established as a liar, so it's not much of a stretch to think that he wouldn't have told Nick everything about him and Marie's time together. Marie's reasons are more difficult to come up with -- although perhaps she would have thought it best not to mention a half-Wesen cousin when Nick was dealing with "holy moly, I'm a Grimm" issues. Plus, she was dying, so maybe her thoughts weren't exactly the most coherent. Or she could have planned revealing it to him another way, perhaps through a hidden journal or letter.
Fair enough, but if Marie and Farley are Trubel's parents, she'd be half Wesen. Why haven't we seen her voge?
From what Wesen characters in the show have said, their natures don't become readily apparent until they hit puberty, more or less. Trubel, being twenty-one, should have shown some sign of a hidden nature by now. However, in this crazy theory, she is also half Grimm. Who knows what that could do to her Wesen side! And it might be the case that Grimm powers would take priority over anything else.
But she could always be from some random family, I suppose ... though where's the convoluted fun in that?
I posed the theory in the cast section of Trubel being Maries daughter. Looking closely the numbers add up. Trubel is 21 Nick is 32 11 year difference. Nick was 11 when he went to Marie. Before Nick Marie was in a relation with Farley a steinadler. Seeing the amount of objection from the community of Monroe an Roselle. A grimm and wessen baby would surly need to be hidden. The writers twice created a scenerio of raising someone else child. Trubel has personality charistics of a steinadler. When she fights she pounces on her pray. Think of the plot lines of wesen grimm combination. Plus a wesen grimm combination is the only relation not in the show. The show has human grimm, wesen human, cross wesen, but no grimm wesen now that Marie died.
My reasons for wanting Trubel being wesen grimm. She could go undercover inthe wesen world and still do her grimm work. Second a grimm can see into a wesen's sole. As grimm wesen she could see really deep into her own sole. Maybe that is how she was able to hold on to the fact of what she was seeing is real. Hank and Wu both dismissed seeing a wesen as real. Trubel having the steinadler personality would explain her fighting style, especially since she never had any training. Her fighting skill can not be explaind by her being a grimm, or Nick would fight a lot better. Especially sinse he has police training.
