G & K said after S5 ended that they had to dig out of the hole they’d written themselves into. The only hole I saw for S6 was Renard’s exposure/failed coup and the disassembly of the laser focused Eve making Nick/Juiliette a viable option.
Natural chemistry between the characters and fan reaction might have sparked the creative team’s interest in Nick/Adalind, but I don’t think they seriously considered it until Claire Coffee’s pregnancy prompted them to take the plunge. And actually, G & K might have considered that as their big hole to address in S6 - continue Nick/Adalind in limbo or move it into a committed relationship, or, restore Nick/Juliette.
I don’t think Juliette as the lean mean fighting machine would have worked within the story until after the destruction of Nick/Juliette, but she could have been the show’s female action figure in S5 & S6 without ‘killing her off’ to create the short-term character, Eve.
