If shealso gave Kelly his last name, the show would have told us just as much. If Diana was Schade-Renard, shouldn't Kelly have been Schade-Burkhardt because Adalind wasn't married to either father? The 20 year flash forward is basically showing the progression of these individuals, the changes as much as the bonds that grew stronger. I believe Adalind and Nick married and Adalind dropped her last name as did Kelly.(04-19-2017, 08:00 AM)rpmaluki Wrote: He already said "his mother Kelly" to distinguish between the two Kelly's. Using Burkhardt instead of Schade-Burkhardt is purposeful and says more about Adalind taking Nick's name after marriage than making sure people knew it was him writing and not his grandmother, who was also Kelly Burkhardt when she died.
Why would not Kelly last name at birth be Burkhardt? Adalind wanted to make Nick happy with his son's name. The children names often do not change with marriage.
My friends who parents never married often had their father's name only.
