The gist I get from your post is that Adalind is under the impression that Nick and Juliette are still together? If so, it seems wacko that she would even approach Nick with a question of protecting her.

What I see here is that people are trying to put Adalind's actions as some kind of noble effort, ie, she was only trying to protect her baby. Sure she did. But that wasn't the only reason she was there. This was an opportunity for her to ingratiate herself to Nick. She knows her enemy and is using her enemy's (Juliette's hexenbiest traits) to work to her advantage.
