(Hint: where did they come from next time?).
I know what you said about Nick and Eve not knowing where they found themselves when they came back the first time. But you left it at that and never explained why you felt that. It seemed to me it was very clear. Diana brought them back through the portal and Z hitched onto Nick.

First you state the power of the grimms was Nick's inner strength. Then you state the others had to die for Nick to find his (inner) strength.
Which is it?
I know what happened on screen, the question is in what dimension this happened. (Diana walked between all dimensions). Nick thought he was back, but everything could have happened in a parallel universe. It explains why he came back to reality when Z died. Another possibility is the reset of the timeline when Z died. We do not know. There are arguments for both and different options.
The power of the grimms was his inner strength. Kelly: “We helped you find your strength..[...]....The strength of your blood, the blood of your Grimm ancestors, all of us it's inside you". He only found is inner grimm strength as a result of everybody being killed. Nick had to be pushed to the utmost to bring out everything he had of strength and willpower - which came from his Grimm ancestors.
This is Kouf, one of the writer’s explanation:
IGN: "You guys did things both ways in this finale where you had Nick lose everything and also gave him a happy ending. Was there ever a point in which you were going to have those deaths be permanent? Or did you always want to test him as far as he'd go while still ending with our favorite characters still alive"?
KOUF: "When we created this powerful staff, if it really had that much power, it had to have some power beyond the death of the Zerstörer. It had to be some reward for not letting the world turn bad".
