As the whole point of the Nick character was he was a different kind of Grimm he wasn’t like his mother and the Grimms that came before her he couldn’t just live a solitary life devoid of friends and family it just wasn’t within his character to live that sort of life.
I agree with this. We know from the pilot-episode that Nick wanted a wife and family. I suppose his childhood, where he lost his parents at the age of 12 (that's what he thought, anyway), was an important factor. What made him different from other Grimms was also his willingness to make friends in the Wesen-community. Nick was a modern Grimm. That’s why he could have his Happily ever after ending with a Hexenbiest.

Monroe was important for Nick's connection to the Wesen-world, but I think comparing Nick to Wu is taking it too far. Aunt Marie told Nick he was a Grimm and brought him the trailer. Wu had no idea what was going on.
