It was at the same time we discovered why he was a vegetarian. Nick was concerned, Monroe responded to his surprise he was OK. From that point Monroe fanged out without it being a issue. The one time it was an issue was when his ex girfriend came to town and he started reminiscing about the joy of the hunt. The second was in iron hand he again had to fight the urge to hunt. His being a vegetarian was again brought up after he an Rosalie became a couple. Rosalie found it strange a Blutbad was a vegetarian.
Monroe has gone of the wagon several times. Every time he gets into a fight it is always with fangs and claws. Monroe has mentioned several times the taste of blood is all it takes to bring up the old feeling of the joy of the hunt. That is why Monroe is a vegetarian.
Was this a casual comment, or did Monroe and whoever he said it to think this was a serious risk for him?
My observation about why, what people call salacious events are added in the show. Is proven by the comments in the last two post. Where people see it as a cheap trick. It is actually a satirical jab at antiquated positions an attitudes. What better way to poke fun then to do something and then watch the puritan minds become completely unhinged. The shows does not be little women or these ideas on sex. The present them to show how ludicrous these puritan idea are.
Shows use to use interracial then gay relationships as the but of a joke. Now days even that has changed and these topics have been given a position of respect.
Take interracial relationships. In the past Monroe and Rosales relation when have been portrayed as odd and them an outcast. It would have been a running joke on the show. In the show those that object and find issue with their relationship are painted as bigoted and out of touch. They addressed the subject of transsexuals with the wesen that could change from man to women. They gave Monroe a very poignant speech on the subject. Instead of making light of the subject. I can not think of them addressing a same sex relation. The closes was Eve and Rachael. But even that They have Eve more concerned she had to have sex as opposed that the sex was with a women. Even Rosalie found it very interesting as to what it would be like. Instead of finding it distasteful. The show is based on tolerance. showing those without tolerance as bigoted. They are shown as holding on to antiquated beliefs. You would have to be really blind to not see the entire show has always been about societies dealing with those that are consider the other. In real life this would be those of a different race or sexual disposition.
