I've only been reading lately because the comments on posts have become off-topic and have nothing to do with discussion of the show IMO.
To me, this is Grimm and not Law & Order: SVU which would have more direct real world consequences that can be applies. Grimm is not like that. At least not to me. Due to Nick being a Grimm it changes the whole concept of the show. Sure he's a detective and all that but it's again not like SVU where accountability and all that goes along with it is ripped from the headlines (as they say a lot) and Grimm doesn't.
I'll start reading a thread and it will be great seeing all the different points of view and then all of a sudden real life scenarios are introduced and how it should not be that way and should be a different way because it's not factual enough and not believable. To me, again personal opinion, that's what sets Grimm apart from shows that are based on more real world directives from Criminal Minds (and the new one Beyond Borders) to SVU to even Elementary (although it skates in some areas too) - they all do such as rushed DNA evidence and finding out and closing a case by the end of the episode etc. But they try to stay withing perimeters and give those watching a sense of satisfaction for the bad person being punished and good prevailing although sometimes the guilty party gets away or is off on a technicality or just found not guilty etc. Grimm again is not like that. We're not visiting lab techs (just now getting back to the coroner) and we're not in trials - it's chasing wesen which is not real world. It's sci-fi and it's pleasurable and it's fun. It's also asking you (personal opinion) to try and think outside of the box because being a Grimm sometimes you have to make different choices whether it be for how a Grimm perceives humanity or for the good (in his view and his world) but this outcome does not overlay on our real world and it is hard sometimes to see justification in it but it's also fun - and it's what propels the show because people are talking about it.
It's when (personal opinion) viewers start laying the foundation of trying to make Grimm into what it is not and say that could not happen they should be charged and found guilty. This is not a black and white show. This is not even greys in-between it is colored all over with the large box of crayons and outside the lines. It's magical. It's impossible. It's fun. Nick being charged with crimes would disrupt the balance of the show. There wouldn't be one. He'd be on the run and a fugitive. I don't apply real world scenarios to Grimm. I don't sit down and think about conquests and how it should be handled like other shows or in the real world because again, it's not based on that. It's a fantasy. Some other fantasy shows do implement more real life basis but that's those shows. Not Grimm. This is a show to me that is about the Grimm (Nick) and his internal struggles and how he has to decide in those situations what to do and what the right thing to do is not always the "right one" as we as viewers would see it because again, it's about wesen. Not an average person.
I will probably be flamed or whatever. I don't like reading hateful comments. I don't like seeing people argue with one another about something that to me personally doesn't even fit into Grimm - it's just hard to swallow especially when it becomes so personal. That to me is vindictive and just plain mean. Bullying really. People can agree, disagree, agree to disagree, or just not plain like someone and still be able to share comments, thoughts, POV, all of the things without having to go for the jugular and try to rip someone apart or start saying this is what happens when you do this or that. Again, remember, yes, this is a tv show and we the viewers are passionate about it but you have to leave your real life basis of right and wrong at the door and check it there when watching it especially if you can't imagine the struggle of having to be a Grimm and how the wesen effect and play into scenarios that are set up - because if it is normal humans doing the act the outcome would IMO be different. There are consequences only they are of a different lot and sort that carry guilt in the soul of a Grimm or at least this one - as others did what they had to do and kept going. Nick does have a conscience and yet as the seasons progress he realizes or finally is with Black Claw and HW that it's a lot bigger than Portland and his small area and now with him holding some relic that may or may not be good and his son, mother of his child, his ex-gf and his friends all in danger. This is not a psychopath detective on the war path for vengeance it is a Grimm that is set where yes, there is going to be destruction and there is going to be collateral damage most likely at this point and there will be wesen that die and possibly other Grimm's or we will hear they perished perhaps. As Meisner will most like fall and succumb to a no return (death) and some will mourn and hate that just as they do the Nick/JulEve or Nick/Adalind and all that - and now Diana and so on and so forth. This is Grimm. It's Grimm's story. It's a Grimmverse. It's taking fairytales and making them as they were written only making them even more disturbed than they were first written. It's all a fantasy and we need to remember that when applying our sense of justice, right or wrong, and beliefs in general. We want Nick to do the right thing. He wants to do the right thing and he struggles with it because again, what is the right thing as a detective with regular people and six years ago for him is no longer applicable as some wesen put him in a position that the only recourse is death where he does try to arrest or in some cases where he has to hunt them down and do what is necessary like Kenneth or whomever. Send Nick to jail for passing judgment on him for that and all his other bad deeds or Adalind's or Eve's or Renard's and you no longer have Grimm as a show. At least not the one I've been watching for five seasons.
I hope going forward that we can stay on topic and discuss the actual threads and look forward to season six as we'll know more after the finale and how six will play out etc. No need to call names or take low blows on anyone. Just try to have an open mind - it's what IMO this show is all about because again, to me it's a 180 from SVU, CM, CSI and all those other shows. And it's not Buffy, it's not Avatar, it's not Harry Potter or Supernatural or any of the others. It's set apart from them because it takes a different view and it's a different show completely. It's the Grimm world. How it is penned you either love it or hate but IMO you don't throw real world politics, beliefs or anything else into or it will implode for sure and again, not be Grimm. All of this was evident to me from the start of watching it. If it was like the other shows what draw did it really have for me? I would just be watching similar outcomes and know the setup of how something is going to happen only with different characters and actors. I also don't take issue with any of the actors that are on this show. To me that is no different than taking shots at those that disagree with how I saw or interpreted an episode. They're portraying a character. I don't know them in real life. What some may see as poor acting may be how the character is supposed to be played. We don't know.
We're not the writers. Some of us maybe should be but that's neither here or there. We don't have the control of the show but we do have control of our keyboards. Let's try to be respectful of one another and our differences. That's what drew me to this forum to begin with. Sorry for such a long winded repetitive reply. It may not make sense at all and again, I may get flamed or whatever. Take issue with me if you want I just want to enjoy this forum and have great debates whether in agreement or not on episodes as we're all passionate about this show and rooted for it to be renewed; and now it seems we're tearing one another apart limb by limb through words. Have a great day everyone!
[I did not check for errors - I did not read over to check for anything. So I apologize for typos and all the things. LOL]
