@droid327 and tscchope. I kind of agree with both of you to an extent. Yes, there is plenty of folklore about people being bitten/scratched by a werewolf becoming werewolves themselves.
However, the show did state that lycanthropy was genetic and specific to blutbaden. The writer's shouldn't have done that if they wanted the episode to be consistent and logical.
They kind of painted themselves into a corner, then decided to walk across the wet paint and leave great big footprints all over the place.
A way out of this is something tscchope suggested. That is that no one actually bothered to find out what really causes lycnthropy. They just killed everyone affected immediately.
Perhaps Monroe and Rosalee can be the ones who find out the real cause and a cure for it. They could become the Jonas Salk and Florence Nightingale of the wesen community!
