I don't know what the odds of them actually obtaining all 7 keys would be. I would imagine it would be rarer than being struck by lightning. In any case, after the few times they tried for the key(s), I don't think it appealed to them. They may have discovered the its true nature and decided to leave well enough alone.
I know that King Frederick tried to murder Nick, but I am not of the opinion that the Royals systematically murdered Grimms, thus accounting for their rarity. For one thing, noting Nick's own family with a grandfather, mother, aunt, and third(?) cousin who are Grimms, that doesn't seem to rare to me. The only other Grimm we came across was Rolek, and we don't know how far back (and far reaching) that family tree is.
When Eric and Frederick were killed off and Viktor was taken out of the picture, I wondered why the crown didn't go to Renard. He was in direct line for the throne.
