This thread can also apply to Nick and Juliette relationship. The years the were together cause Nick to have a blind spot that the detective and the Grimm did want of see or believe. He had as they say hope Juliette would come around and change back to the Juliette he knew and loved.
He responded poorly at the beginning but did try to restart after talking to Henrietta the old Juliette would have worked with him at this point. I see this bread crumb being the start of Nick's first blind spot and when he missed this change he lost the cause.
For those who believe that because knew Juliette so well knew she would not leave Portland without closing the relationship, I see a Juliette at the end Nick did not know how she would react so he can't predict what she may or may not do. He had seen so "he had to believe" her do things so out of character for the old Juliette. I believe the crumbs add up to this but only my opinion.
