That "man up" attitude--repress, don't open up, don't talk, don't express your feelings, ignore your pain--is why men in this society die younger than women, are susceptible to alcohol & drug abuse, are more likely to be both victims and perpetrators of crimes of violence, have more heart attacks, more strokes, more cancer, and in short are subject to so many more pathologies.
Greek, Italian, and Spanish men are willing to open up to their emotions--positive and negative--to a greater extent than men from Anglo cultures. This has produced not only a culture where men are much more mentally healthy, but cultures that have produced some of the greatest art and music. (E.g. opera. [Nick as an opera singer? From his speaking voice, I'd guess he's a lyric baritone or a dramatic tenor.])
