More likely the question is "how bad is he" or Can Nick Really Trust Renard?Given that I'm a strong believer in moral relativism, I would like to rephrase the question as "how bad is 'wessen' society"? I'm not so sure that Renard is "bad", so much as he's an authority over certain wessen societies (e.g., blutbaden, hexenbiest, etc.) that are much more violent than regular human society?
What I think is really interesting is that Renard is an open character. Until now we have indications that he is a really bad boy. But we also have indications that he is for some reason helping Nick to fight against the royal families.
So, the writers have a character that they can do everything they want, like put Renard killing his own brother (to protect Nick) or killing Nick's mom or even "selling" Nick to his brother to get some kind of reward in exchange.
The important point in this discussion, I believe, is that Renard is not working with the families (at least this is what it looks like) be Renard good or evil (or something between). This is an open door for the writers to create in the future new royals that for some reason decided to help Nick and the others against the royal families GROUP.
