Game of Thrones has won a ton of Emmys doing the exact same thing. Making sense is no longer required.
The later seasons of House also were loaded with these types of instances. I guess Grimm was following the trend and would've been more acclaimed had it been about doctors or was on HBO.
I am sure the sex scenes, the gratuitous nudity and I hear some of the sex is real sex happening, helped them get those awards.
