I don’t think the ritual creating a stronger mother/child bond explains Diana’s yo-yo behavior, but it does explain G & K’s yo-yo approach to writing and using the character as a plot twist. Much of what they did with Diana felt more like contrived dramatic effect and cool action scenes than insight into the character.
Absolutely, the lack of Nick/Juliette discussion about their S4 tragedy was a huge elephant in the room, and so was the lack of Nick/Adalind discussion about Diana’s kidnapping. Too often G & K swept the difficult to deal with fallout under the rug and gave the characters an out of sight, out of mind mentality.
