I am thinking no,because he did not need it when he was fighting Renard....it is only when he possess the stick it can protect him ( or take him over as the case may be)
I am thinking Renard does posses the stick to save him at the end Renard and Nick will be on the same side......that's what I think.

Looks like Nick is addicted to the relic for now as if it is calling to him to pick it up. Taking that idea is the relic trying to complete something with Nick or is Nick just addicted? If the first is true what is it trying to complete? If it is the second will Nick have to detox?
For while I would say Nick is only addicted. But that one who could control the stick (the “drug” Nick is addicted on) will control Nick.
Another point is: as long as the stick is with Nick (or with his friends) Nick controls the stick (and the stick controls him). But what will happen if someone like Sean could get and control the stick? Would the stick be able to be used to control Nick somehow?
What effects will the stick have over Hexenete/Eve?
Apparently (and I am really writing just APPARENTLY for while) Monroe is the only healed by stick but not affected by it yet.
