As the whole point of the Nick character was he was a different kind of Grimm he wasn’t like his mother and the Grimms that came before her he couldn’t just live a solitary life devoid of friends and family it just wasn’t within his character to live that sort of life.
In my opinion, there has to be something naturally occurring within the grimm to make them loners. Nick became friends with Monroe, but it was Monroe who initiated the friendship. It was an extraordinary thing to do from both sides, but had Monroe not extended the olive branch, Nick would never have gone out of his way to befriend a wesen.
