WotW stories from the fairy tales ran out of steam and ratings went into a death spiral from S03 on, but NBC kept the show on life support because it owned the production company and wanted that 100+ episodes and a proper finale to keep it marketable overseas and in DVD and streaming sales. Most everything in S04 and S05 we're attempts to find a new path to higher numbers, which never really happened, and S06 was all about getting to the end.
