This goes back to what you said about how her character was written. She was mostly used by G&K to advance plots or story lines with very little continuity or character development.

G&K admitted to not thinking too far ahead in an interview, like MLG said. They probably did not know where they would go with her when they come up with the idea of 'uber hexenbiest Diana' but they certainly set it up so that they could go either way. So yes, when they stuck to N&A's relationship they definitely couldn't have her go evil.
