To some degree, I agree with you. When Diana was a baby she was already leaning towards camp Nick. She had a thing for Kelly's necklace with Nick's picture.
Whether Nick and Adalind were together, the show only had two options with Diana. She would either be evil and Nick would defeat her. Or she'd be 'good' and protected by Nick. The only Nick/Adalind influence is probably that the show wouldn't have Nick forced to kill Adalind's evil daughter.
