@irukandji - I believe you're over exaggerating DG's supposed failure as a male lead. He already has a pilot lined up with the potential to be picked up of all the main Grimm cast. He ticked all the right boxes, at least those that mattered. Juliette's character was the one that was overhauled and desperately needed it (not because she wasn't good enough as an vet or whatever). That was done to make her independent of Nick's character, having failed as the main love interest of the main lead for three and a half seasons. The writers hoped to make her popular and it didn't quite have the impact they hoped. Adalind was already popular well on her own as Nick's antagonist, even when they isolated her most of S2 all the way through parts of S4. They had hoped lightning would strike twice with Juliette's character and as far as I could see, once she became Hexenette, she alienated too many viewers because of her actions, something that's still unforgivable to a considerable portion of the fandom. They created a brand new character that took advantage of Bitsie's limited range and I can't be sure if she gained any of the fans she had lost by that time.
Nick is dull and his personality never improved much as his world grew darker with each passing season. I do think Nick suffers some form of PTSD and even then, but he still commanded much more interest with viewers of the show. When you have people complaining about S5 and S6 not having enough of Nick or him being involved in the major plots because writers took all the focus away from him and gave it to Eve, it shows you who people preferred to watched, at least between Nick and Juliette/Eve.
You're basically substituting a lot of the complaints made against Juliette's character and inserting the character you seem to hate above all others, and that's Nick.
