That kind of relationship should have withstood the instinctual racial hatred a Grimm and a Hexenbiest would have normally had for each other. But it didn't, because the writers wanted Nick with Adalind, and to hell with anyone who suggested it didn't make any sense from the perspective of the characters.
Normally I can overlook those kind of plot holes if the story's good enough, but this particular narrative manipulation was especially hurtful and cruel, if only because we had to watch a romance developed for three seasons disintegrate. And if you dare to use the "That's reality/life!" card, you're just using cheap nihilism as an excuse for lazy scriptwriting.
I don't write "Grimm" fanfiction. I write about what REALLY happened. What the writers did on the show was fanfiction, and dreary misery-porn fanfiction at that.
Well....here is how I see it. The writers are not to be blamed like you blame, for they have done nothing wrong really but follow up.
You know the people you should actually blame --> You, me and millions of Grimm fans out there. Its all about numbers, figures, viewers rating, viewers point of view, and social media. The writers were simply following up on which ship to follow. The Nadalind shippers were higher, so they took that road.
Money is very much involved here. If the show ended with the viewers of Nickette fans, all because that was what they planned all along, they may not have broken even by the end of it all, all because they did not get the figures needed or close to.
Grimm show profit gains are not over yet, infact it is just the beginning, You will notice that more enterainment/TV companies will pre order the show complete for the first time for the future due to higher demand. DVD's collections will be sold to max.....
Why? all because they have the figures created by one ship. And yes, the figures are high.
The relationship part is not the only reason ofcourse, the story line on Grimms and wesen were nice, the back ground to its own fairy tale was unique. But Romantic ties and who ends up with who plays big roles on TV.
