Kelly then takes her to Nick and gets his protection. Protection that Nick agrees to even though Nicks hates her. But what does Adalind do runs over to Sean's. Immediately the varret try and kill them. So again Nick and Kelly have to save her. Viktor threatens Sean's and Adalind. Adalind gets arrogant about not giving up her child. Just like Kelly said Adalind big mistake was running to Sean's. Viktor did not know where Nick lived. Had Adalind not been so hard headed Kelly might have worked with her so both Adalind and Diana could get a way. Kelly did get both out of Vienna. When her assignment was to get Diana. But after running off and then wanting to make demands. Why would Kelly want to risk having Adalind along. She ran from Nick's because they were still enemies and didn't trust them, it didn't matter that Kelly helped her, Kelly did so not knowing she was THE Adalind that almost ruined her son's life/messed with his girlfriend/almost killed his friends/tried to kill her sister. Who's to say Kelly wasn't more convinced that Adalind should not be allowed to raise her own child now that she knew who she was and all she had done? Nick, Kelly, Juliette weren't on her side. They took care of her they got there but Kelly had other ideas....
If you say Adalind was concerned about her child. Then why did she keep putting her child at risk. Better yet why did she even make her child a target. Had she not gone to Vienna and told everyone a baby with Royal blood was on the market. Her and Diana could have lived a quiet normal life. So I find it hard to see how people think she has is protecting her kids.
Even in season 5. HW had Diana. Had Adalind communicated what BC was doing. HW could have trusted her to put her in contact with Diana. instead now her and both kids are under the control of BC. HW was not gong to divulge that they had Diana after Adalind running her mouth resulted in Meisner having to launch a rescue mission to get Diana from the Royals. People want to blame Juliette. Bottom line Adalind came to Portland to do exactly what Juliette did. Had Juliette not been a hexenbiest Adalind would have captured Juliette to get to Kelly. Even if it meant forcing Nick to contact her in exchange for Juliette's life. People forget, Adalind started the plan. Juliette only finished it. So how was helping the Royals get Diana looking out for her child. Even Adalind said they would kill her once they got Diana.
For someone people want to say her children come first. She sure keeps them in dangerous situations. This is twice she has left where she and her kids where safe. Only to go where her kids where under constant attack. With Diana it was leaving Nick to go to Sean's. Instantly under attack. With Kelly again she left Nick to go to Sean's instantly under attack. So exactly how is that protecting her kids.
She went to Sean because he was the father, a police Captain that hated his family and was a former lover/ally. She trusted him much more than the grimm that hated her guts.
Kelly had ulterior motives, cajoling Adalind into believing she was on Adalind's side when in truth she believed Diana was better off without her mother or father. Adalind was right not to trust her implicitly. When did separating a child from its mother give more rights to the kidnappers?
Adalind's changed stance on keeping Diana didn't mean she had control of everything around. She had made enemies everywhere, choosing to keep her daughter rather than hand her over to child traffickers after the mistake of selling her is something I won't fault her in. She had made a horrible mistake and tried to right it as best as someone like her was capable. You want Adalind to have been the perfect mother from the get go but for that to happen Adalind would need to be perfect herself, immune from making mistakes at every turn, but she wasn't and she learning on the fly to try and make better choices for her children, that doesn't mean they won't be in danger, unfortunately that genie is already out of the bottle, Diana is rare as the daughter of a hexenbiest and Zauberbiest on top of heighten hexenbiest powers, Kelly is the son of a Grimm by a hexenbiest mother, her children will always be in danger whether they are in Adalind's care or not. Kelly couldn't protect her or keep her from her would be captors, her blood relatives, HW operatives/foster parents were murdered. If nobody else could protect her children from danger why hold it against their mother to try and keep them safe as best as she could and not being able to do a perfect job?
HW didn't care about Diana, they wanted another powerful weapon to help in their fight against BC, why else keep mother and child separate. They knew where Adalind was, that she was living with a Grimm, the same Grimm they wanted to join their ranks. You don't just hand over your biggest gun in your arsenal so it can be raised to be a normal child when you're in a war. To a lot of people Diana isn't a little girl but a means to an end.
Again with (your) justifying the actual kidnappers and only villainising the heartbroken mother because Nick and his band of accomplices are more entitled to Diana than her own mother.
You seem to forget Conrad blatantly threatened her child if she stayed with Nick. Her kids are in danger no matter what she does, her option that made sense to her at the time is to be with them both. After what she went through with Diana, Adalind would never separate from Kelly. Nick can't look after a nursing baby by his own and because Monroe and Rosalee often help him with whatever wesen problem he's facing and BC demanded all hands on deck, could her expect Rosale to babysit while he's off being a cop by day and a Grimm by night (not always). Adalind spent more time with Kelly than anyone else as a stay home mom, she took her old job back with the condition to bring Kelly to work, Nick couldn't afford the same perks at his job. In that short time Diana blackmailed her mother on the phone, Adalind believed she was making the right choice. The truth is that there weren't a lot of options that would have kept Kelly out of harm's way, I mean look at his parents, it's not like Nick is an investment banker.
Adalind cannot guarantee her children absolute protection whether she's with Sean or she's with Nick, that has been proven, what she will do is make sure she is never separated from them one more day. It's been discussed already how so much could have been avoided if Kelly never took Diana. Adalind would never have gone to Viktor, she would never have taken Nick's powers at Viktor's instruction, Juliette would never have become a hexenbiest and play a role in Nick's mother's death, baby Kelly wouldn't exist, Diana wouldn't have ended up with BC, I'm sure there's other things I haven't mentioned. To protect your child could be something as simple as being there for them, Adalind was robbed of that opportunity, Conrad could hurt Kelly without moving as muscle, to protect him, she did what the asked and came to Sean. So yeah, Adalind is putting her children first, protecting them from those that want to use/hurt them for their own agenda. It may not seem like a lot to you but it is something to Adalind, a character that began the show as the most selfish, shallow individual of the core characters. There are different ways to protect. It's not as simple as you make it.
