Nick and Adalind should have either gotten counseling or started dating just to learn about each as non-parents and talk about the past. Rosalee could have watched Kelly. Being new parents is a lot of work for anyone and it does not encourage in depth conversations.
Women characters do not have to be having sex with the lead to be important to the story.
