This is exactly how I feel. Sometimes reading people on these threads throwing out words like "slut" and "whore" actually angers me. I really don't think the writers meant anything at all by it either. I think if people are thinking those things about Adalind/Juliette that has more to do with them as a person. Because that never even crossed my mind. People can sleep with who they want, it doesn't make them less of a person or any less deserving of the respect that should be afforded to others as fellow human beings.
Nightschade, it really doesn't have to do with the individual, but culture. Even in my youth, long, long ago, we knew the girls who would sleep around and "do it" with anyone handy. They had the same type of attitude as both Adalind and Juliette. It's really strange. Even though the times have completely changed, women are still viewed as skanks if they sleep with one too many guys.
Guys? Well, they're just viewed as guys. It all goes back to the woman. If she's dumb enough to let them get her cookies, it's her fault. It's sad and shouldn't be that way, but it is.
You're right in that it is a cultural thing. I guess I just don't encounter those kinds of mindsets in the people I'm around (for the most part), and so it throws me a little. But you're right, people do still think less of women based on who they sleep with. However, in my opinion, I do not think that this is something that should define a person. Unfortunately, a lot of society does not agree with me.
I actually didn't either to be truthful. Juliette slept with two guys, Renard and Kenneth. Renard I actually could see. There have been comments that there was some residual left between them during Juliette's coma days. Kenneth was a different story, but I still really wouldn't call her a skank for sleeping with him. She'd have to go through a lot more guys for me to look at her behavior as skanky. I look at it more as a revenge angle against Nick. Apparently this was what we were led to believe because Nick looked at the bed and put two and two together. He later beat Kenneth to death. One might say Kenneth sleeping with Juliette may have added to his anger.
And this also brings up an irony regarding men. When their woman sleeps with another man, they are prone to punishing the man more than their woman. It doesn't always happen that way, but when I asked my husband for his perspective on it, he said the same thing. He would have beaten the s**t out of Kenneth.
The best way to frustrate a cyberbully is to ignore him.
