True. Its weird because it's a Grimm Fairytale. In the tale they became donkeys simply because the huntsman had landed on the magical cabbage patch and due to his hunger he had discovered its powers. He took his newfound knowedge and the two types of cabbages to trick the witch and her daughter as punishment or revenge for what they had done to him.
I don't think G&K had planned for Nick and Adalind to end up together when they were writing season 1 because there was an interview in which they stated that they had gone back to season one and realized what they had, or something like that. I think it could well be after season two when they were fishing for ideas for season three. In season three Kelly and Adalind showed up to disrupt another proposal between Nick and Juliette. It is possible though that they had them at the back of their minds since season 1, who knows?
