Well GrimminFlorida, we don't really know. Nick came to it late, but he could be an exception rather than the rule. Kelly told him in S2E1 that women usually realize they are grimms before men do, she didn't say always. We have no idea when for example, Nick's grandfather or Rolek Porter realized they were grimms.
