But showing the girlfriend constantly doesn't automatically make her a main character that has to share the spotlight with the actual main character. Juliette's character was used to push the plot all of season 1. In AoS, Clark Gregg is top billing, by definition the main character, the show was literally created around him but the show is called Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Because it focuses on the agents (plural) themselves. So on that show, other characters get the spotlight where their stories don't revolve around him. Daisy is the only (other) "lead" who's story we've followed from day one, whereas Coulson's practically non existent and seems to remain in the "background" but just like Nick at the end of S6, the writers never forget who their real main character is but they still use all the other background characters with much better effect than this show has ever used Juliette or could have used her. Juliette isn't a main character, she's a support character regardless of her overall role in relation to that main character.
