I remember one of the books didn't quite measure up to all of the others and maybe that was the one. With me it was a matter of being very invested in the characters; like I am with Grimm. I had to know what would happen to Dany and Tyrion, two of my favorites. And all of the Starks. Martin does spin a fascinating tale and his creation of the lands of Westeros and Esso are inordinately brilliant, almost inspired, imo. It's a story of Fire and Ice and I'm depending on Dany riding her fire-breathing dragon to carry the day. Can't wait for the next HBO season and Martin's next book.
