This current debate isn't about Renard and his wishes but Bonaparte and his true intentions for giving Renard a family on short notice. It's the image of a wesen royal family with the intention of eventually putting Renard in the White House that Bonaparte was selling, not some future with a powerful Diana. He had no plans for Diana, but Diana was part of his plans for Sean Renard, a puppet on his strings.
For you, the current debate is about Bonaparte and his true intentions. But I don't recall anyone stating the previous debate had ended and now we had to follow this train of thought. I was still continuing to debate about the previous train of thought, which was about Renard and his goals. The suggestion of Diana being returned to him is very much in line with that debate.
If I remember correctly Renard knew very early in S5 who had taken Diana in S4 and didn't pursue it further until Rachel brought her up and that was after he knew they wanted him to run for mayor. Nobody is asking he turn down Diana but his timing comes across as suspect.
Meisner, his ally was the closest person to him that he knew was the last person to see Diana and as far as he was aware the Resistance had Diana and at the time, he still had his Resistance connections and he still did nothing about finding diana. Rachel brings up Diana is needed for their plans for him to become mayor and by extension so was Adalind and he's suddenly very eager for a family reunion? He goes to Adalind and tells her about Meisner instead of going to Meisner himself.
Renard loves Diana without a doubt but Renard wasn't ignorant of BC's plans around his daughter, why they tracked her down and why Adalind had to be threatened to leave Nick if she wanted to have Diana back.
