I'm trying to understand this exchange. Why is that exactly why you disagree with his analogy?
To make things clearer, do you disagree because he said he wouldn't walk in the woods with his gun out? I'm sure he has it concealed for safety reasons. I didn't think Trubel was walking around with a machete out in the open either but only pulled out her weapon when she was worried about being attacked. Though, the question you posed did have the gun being out as the specific scenario.
Or, do you disagree because you wouldn't kill the rattlesnake?
As for Trubel, she posed a lethal threat to the wesen even when minding her own business. She was someone to fear for most of them and their first instincts were to attack her before they became her next victim.
This reminds me of an episode of The Office where a bat got in through the ceiling. It was locked in the meeting room and Kelly was telling Dwight not to kill it because it's an innocent living creature that doesn't deserve to be slaughtered. Until, it was released moments later and flew around the room and Kelly was imploring him to kill it even though it never attacked her.

Another analogy from real life: you are fishing in the Everglades, doing a legal open carry, a 15 foot boa climbs into your boat. I am fairly sure you would blast away, reload and repeat and repeat and repeat. Now you did not know if the snake was just tired of swimming and wanted a dry place to sun itself, why did you yell "SNAKE", wet your pants, and expend 25 expensive rounds. Would anyone expect you to say, "Wow, what a beautiful example of God's creation" and then wait to see what happened? NO. Same with the wessen, see a Grimm, kill a Grimm. Since wessen only woge when they were excited, Truble would not have known who or what to fear, she never said she cut off humans' heads, only the monsters who attacked her. That she was still sane says she has a very level head and knew reality when she saw it.
