He wanted Kelly from the 1st time he laid eyes on him, when he met Adalind, in her new office, at her old the law firm, that re-hired her. He wanted Kelly, so he could blackmail Nick for the Grimm Book, in case Nick wasn’t willing to join BC. Once Bonaparte realized, Nick was not going to play ball with BC and Co. Adalind had no other choice when she left her note to Nick.Bonaparte: Ah. I think it's great that you bring your son into the office like this. I lost both my parents at a young age, so you should spend all the time you can with him.
Adalind: I do. This is—
Bonaparte: Kelly.
Adalind: Did Mr. Berman tell you?
Bonaparte: There's a word for when you lose your parents. It's "orphan." And there is a word for when you lose your spouse. It's "widow" or "widower." There are many words for many things But there is no word for when you lose a child.
Adalind: What do you want?
Bonaparte: Your present relationship is very unhealthy for you and Kelly. Your future is with us, not with the Grimm. You need to make a decision by the end of the day. Hmm?
I suppose it could be construed either way. Bonaparte’s threat was about losing ‘a’ child. Was he referring to Kelly if Adalind didn’t bring him to the BC house with her, or, that she’d never see Diana again if she didn’t come to the BC house? Both?
Adalind: I can't take you away from your dad. I can't do that. I can't lose Diana again either. I can feel how badly she needs me.
Adalind’s tearful monologue with Kelly wasn’t a debate to take or leave him behind, she was debating taking him or not going. Diana pretending to be Renard issuing an ultimatum made the decision for her. But, if Adalind was tearful over going to the BC house with Kelly because Bonaparte demanded both of them, there wouldn’t be anything to debate.
Was Bonaparte expecting Kelly and planning to use him to bait Nick or did Adalind bringing him provide an unplanned opportunity for Bonaparte to use Kelly to his advantage? Bonaparte and Rachael only talked to Renard about the importance of a perfect-family image, which is why they needed to get Diana from HW and convince Adalind to join them. They never mentioned Renard claiming Kelly as his. Renard wasn’t expecting Adalind to bring Kelly and voiced his surprise when they arrived.
So after all this back and forth with myself, either interpretation is reasonable. *grin*

I think it was always part of Bonapartes plan to get Kelly and leverage him over Nick, Renard didn’t know beacuse why would he know since he was just Bonepartes pet at the time. You really think Boneparte shared all his plans with Renard not a chance, just like he didn’t tell Renard nick had an important book of All the Grimms. In fact I think it was that very meeting with Boneparte that played the biggest role in Adalinds decision to leave Nick.
Yea, but, at this point, Bonaparte hasn’t approached Nick yet. He doesn’t know if Nick will join forces with him and BC, so he is keeping his options opened. Once he placed the ring spell on Adalind, how much more proof do you need of his plans to get Adalind with both kids? Hence, Adalind had no real choice to leave Kelly with Nick, Rosalee, daycare, or what ever.
Some of you guys just keep going in circles and just won’t accept that Adalind did fall for Nick, Nick fell for Adalind. As bad as Adalind was in the first three and a half seasons, she does redeem herself, by directly apologizing to both Nick and Juliette. Do the research, both of those scenes were not cut.
Meanwhile, Juliette’s conduct was 10-fold worse that whatever Adalind did to Nick. Like I stated previously. If anyone had reasons to have Nick’s mom decapitated was Adalind. Kelly was indirectly responsible for killing Adalind’s mother. Juliette never came clean for what she did. She never, directly apologized for what she did.
In that last speech she gave Nick, at the stone hedge wasn’t even close in attesting to her sins nor as empathetic to how Adalind was with her apology. Bitch all you want. This is the characters they gave us. No opinions or debates will change what took place on the screen.
You know you are OLD, when you see the Slide Ruler you used in college selling in an ANTIQUE SHOP!!
