So there's an unintended conflict within the narrative. And that scene comes across as though Juliette's giving Nick a free pass to cheat and he readily went along with it. I think that was a wrong narrative decision by the writers or direction if they wanted me to believe that Nick didn't ever think of Adalind with lust, a simple blindfold would gone a long way towards keeping Adalind "out" from between Nick and Juliette in an already weird, awkward (sexual kink?) scene.
More analysis of your ideas to interject into the character. instead of what actually happened.
This is what actually happened before he beds Juliette as Adalind
Juliette turns off the light]
Nick: Yeah, that'll help. I hope. Maybe if I just close my eyes.
Juliette: No. We're not doing it that way.
Nick: Really?
Juliette: [She begins unbuttoning Nick's shirt] You love me, Nick. What you see isn't me. But you know it is. [She takes Nick's shirt off]
Nick: Yeah, that helps.
Juliette: [She takes off her shirt] This is your one and only chance to have an affair with my blessing. You may as well enjoy it. Because it's still me. And I can only see you. And I'm gonna have at it.
Nick: [He chuckles] Well, if you put it that way.
[Juliette chuckles, and they begin making out]
This conversation show a very competent woman and in charge of the whole situation. When she states "but I can only see you but I am going to have at it".
What does she mean by it? Has she been holding back when having sex with Nick the whole time she been with him? Is she going to release the Juliette her college friend talked about? Hey is you can interject? So can I!
Nick wants his Grimm back but is hesitant and reacting nervous about the whole situation. Juliette is very confident and in charge!
I think you make good points and I do think this scene was trying to show us how awesome and understanding Juliette was before the bedding. She was this ultra-confident woman that wasn't going to let Adalind's form stop her from doing what needed to be done and it also played as one big comedy scene that people were supposed to laugh at. We already had the Monroe and Rosalee scene talking about how difficult it must be before we see Nick and "Adalind" in bed together to add to the comedy of a scene that most people would think would be awkward for them.
However, I thought there were some unintended consequences for this scene based on how it played out versus how it was written. It really came off to me that Nick was hesitant at first more because he was afraid how Juliette would take it if he showed any excitement at having sex with her when she looked like Adalind. He really freed himself up once Juliette took the initiative and said "we're not doing it that way."
From then on, it appeared like Nick was really into it and had no problems performing which makes me think he wasn't really hesitant for his sake at the start. It was like Nick was able to do what he naturally wanted to do once he got Juliette's blessing and not for the reason Juliette stated before they got busy. It was meant to come off as him making love to Juliette and not focusing on Adalind's form but they had too much fun to make me think Nick didn't get any extra enjoyment out of sleeping with "Adalind".
I'm not really knocking either Nick or Juliette for the scene. I don't think anything should be held against either one even if I everything I saw was the absolute truth. The scene just played out differently than imagined and I chalk that up to the writers wanting to take advantage of having Nick and "Adalind" in bed together.
The only thing I would add to this situation is. If both were so much in agreement to do what was done in this scene. Why place so much blame on Nick for the Hexenbiest outcome in her. Nick had no clue of the eventual outcome just as anyone else did.
If you follow the whole storyline that lead up to this scene, Nick admits to wanting to get back his Grimm, but only if Juliette wanted it also. He never forced her to accept the ritual. If anyone placed more emphasis to get it done was Juliette. She drove that whole process, not Nick.
Once she becomes a Hexenbiest she acts as if Nick tricked her into doing the deed. She reacts as if she had no part in it and was the poor little normal girl that was taken advantage by all and especially Nick.
And I still can not come to terms with what did Kelly ever due to Juliette to justify what she did to her in return. If she hated Adalind so much she should have thanked her for taking Adalind baby away.
