But he isn't protecting Adalind either, regardless of whether she's a hexenbiest or not. That's what I'm saying. It'd a double standard. Juliette should have been booted out, but Adalind should stay. Nick should be booting Adalind out because he cannot protect her or her children.
Juliette was being attacked every few shows by the wesen of the week. If she had not turned in hexenbiest or left Nick IMO she would have died. So far Adalind has not been attacked while with Nick and the wesen of the week has never even got close to her or the kids. Adalind & kids could be in great danger after leaving Nick.

Detectives work the cases that are assigned to them. Nick is Homicide detail, which in addition to deaths also works assaults, kidnappings and missing persons. He doesn't even get to decide which cases he works. Wu appears to be the person who's tasked with assigning cases (which makes no real life sense, because Wu's a uniformed Sgt.; Nick and Hank should be getting their assignments from a Lt. who leads their team, who in turn reports to the Capt. in command of the Homicide detail).
PPB has separate detective details assigned to work sex crimes, including trafficking, and property crimes. Gang enforcement is handled by a special team in the uniformed Operations Division, not by detectives.
If Nick and Hank were to come across any crimes other than homicides, assaults, kidnappings or missing persons, they would be required to report them to the details or divisions that have jurisdiction and to hand off to them unless asked to assist. If they kept on working the cases on their own, they'd be disciplined for it.
Triage on Portland's crime problems takes place about five levels above Nick's pay grade.

Kelly already qualifies for benefits as Nick's child. Diana gets them as Sean's child. And Nick can sign Adalind up as a domestic partner. They don't need to get married for that reason.
Where you live how can you become domestic partner?
Women characters do not have to be having sex with the lead to be important to the story.
