What I am thinking is more like they wanted Adalind to be his mother so they could own baby Kelly using Diana's contract so they set up to switch things.
Adalind is related to Diana's contract which is related to Eve/Juliette life.
If Adalind was not pregnant with Nick's child it would have been more likely that Adalind would have stood by and done nothing to keep mama Kelly alive than Eve/Juliette.
The prophecy is likely about Diana but I thinking who created the cloth and the stick.
If this show is going to have time travel what is to stop Kelly from being the one who created both of them in the past.

Women characters do not have to be having sex with the lead to be important to the story.
