Here is what I don't understand about this episode. It's clearly an original take on vampires. There are two uses of the V-word in this episode. Yet, I've never seen another Grimm fan talk about this episode in regard to vampires. Maybe it's the case where people are so conditioned to expect the rehashed archetypes in their vampire mythos that a subtle approach goes beneath the casual fan's vampire radar. Anyways, let's spot the parallels.
1. The drowned kid pulled from the river had two holes in his neck that resemble the classic vampire bite marks.
2. The victim was minus 7+ pints of blood.
3. Geier rhymes with vampire.
4. Geiers can fly. Some vampires fly.
I really like this episode. It reminds me a lot of Beeware in that the focus is less on duplicating a fairy tale and more on developing the Grimm mythos. We get the Fuchsbau apothecary. We get insight into a shadow society that deals in human organs. Nearly all the previous wessen antagonists have been loners, but this is the first time where Nick really goes up against an organized conspiracy (the other case being the Beeware episode). In the life of a Grimm, Juliette's side plot and Monroe's lines are all pretty good. I think this episode is a very well written one.
Oh yeah, the reaper box with the ear is badazz. Renard's scene is classic.
