I like what you said about Renard and agree with most of it. The only thing I don't agree with is the lapse of judgment statement with regard to Juliette.
I don't get why it's Renard's fault for sleeping with her.
This is just a generalization here, but many of the arguments regarding Juliette blame Renard for sleeping with her, as though he took some kind of unfair advantage of Juliette. The arguments seem to imply that Juliette was somehow vulnerable and not responsible for her own actions. There's the added argument that Renard was somehow sleeping with Juliette to get back at Nick.
But then, when it comes to Juliette attempting to kill Monroe or attempting to kill Nick, most arguments favor her being responsible for her own actions and therefore, she must have been in her right mind when the attempted murders occurred.
To my way of thinking, the woman can't be considered as being taken advantage of when it comes to sleeping with someone one minute, and yet totally responsible for her actions when trying to kill others the next. Juliette always seemed to me to know her own mind.
If the consensus here is that she was fully aware of her actions as a hexenbiest, and as a hexenbiest, SHE made the decision to sleep with Renard, so be it.
Pretty darn unassailable logic there, irukandji. My problem is I loved Juliette. I was very saddened to see her degenerate into a monster. I could have lived with her being a Hexenbiest, but being reduced to a Hexenbiest who lost all humaneness was a loss I'm still mourning. Because of that, I tend to not hold her responsible for her terrible transgressions. But when I'm in a more objective mood, I have to admit she willfully turned her back on her better angels. I don't struggle too much with the morality of the things she did in an acutely altered state, but I know it's because it's painful to dwell on. Imo, she became a total sacrifice to the dark arts, her love for Nick, and the well-meaning actions of his friends.
