JS has written in other posts that he views Grimm as a total fantasy. In real life something like this would never work. But I suppose it could in a fantasy one.
The best reason of all, is for the sake of the child. The owe their biological child 100% of their efforts art parenting. If they can make a warm nurturing two parent household for Kelly they damn well should do it.

So I posted this earlier, thought better of it, and then deleted it. Now, for various reasons I 'll try and reconstruct it.
A lifetime ago, I was counselor for victims of sexual assault while I worked on my psych degree. When I think of sitting across from a woman with blackened eye(s), teeth that had been knocked out, broken ribs, broken fingers, and possible internal injuries, that is the sickening image I have of rape. The hollow look in their eyes, the listlessness, the despair permeating the room, you so want to make their pain go away and are powerless to do anything about it; that is what I think of when I think of rape. It was so emotionally draining for me that I switched career paths and went into the business world. Not to lessen other experiences but I have a hard time equating the image in my mind with what happened to Nick.
Peace out…
