Quote:Nick bought the engagement ring for Juliette in episode 1.01. Per the NBC recap of episode 1.12 “Juliette calls Nick for any requests as she plans their anniversary dinner. She's putting away some laundry when she stumbles across a big surprise that puts a smile on her face... Nick's hiding an engagement ring in his sock drawer!”
Per the NBC recap of episode 1.16 “Back at their cabin, Nick admits to Juliette that even though this weekend didn't turn out as planned, he still has one perfect moment he'd like to make. Nick pulls out the engagement ring and asks Juliette to marry him. Juliette is hesitant and eventually says she can't. She loves him deeply and wants to marry him someday, but she knows Nick is still keeping things from her. Juliette understands Aunt Marie's death was hard on Nick, yet until he can let her back in, she's won't say yes. Devastated by Juliette's response, Nick slowly walks away, leaving Juliette to stare at the ring.”
I was reading the recaps in which the two paragraphs appear, and I think these give a very biased look at Juliette.
First of all, the two incidents New Guy references above do not occur one right after the other. They occur over several episodes. Here are some additional scenes not mentioned by New Guy which occurred in between the two paragraphs:
Quote:Meanwhile, Juliette watches the hour pass by at home with her beautiful romantic meal gone to waste. Yet another night alone while Nick is who knows where... yet Nick is apparently planning on proposing. What does it all mean?
Then there's this:
Quote:Their guess is right, and Nick and Monroe cautiously approach the lair. They sneak off in different directions, as Monroe tracks down Juliette and is able to break her free, while Nick goes off to "fight the dragon." It's a tough battle with the old man, and Nick must duck and dive to avoid his deadly flames. He eventually is able to "slay the dragon," stabbing him through the heart with a copper pole. Ariel then arrives on the scene; while she's sad to see her father dead, she's proud that he went out valiantly. Nick sprints out of the cave as Ariel sprays her lipid mist, enveloping the cave in a giant fireball.
Nick makes it out just in time, as the lair explodes with Ariel inside. While they're all safe and sound, Nick definitely has some explaining to do. Juliette is clearly upset and tells Nick that she's not sure if she can tolerate the continual stress that his job puts on their everyday lives. She doesn't want to make decisions tonight, but their future together is definitely something they need to face.
Finally, the incident with the Unbezahlbar happens while Nick and Juliette go off to a cabin for a romantic getaway. This prevents Nick from spending valuable time with her.
It's only after all of this that Nick finally proposes to Juliette at the cabin.
I don't believe Juliette was wrong to refuse Nick. She was clearly upset with him and feels he has some explaining to do. Instead of explaining it all to her, he instead offers her the engagement ring and has the audacity to be "devastated" when she refuses his offer of marriage.
The best way to frustrate a cyberbully is to ignore him.
