However, I doubt that one of those keys would have sufficient value to unknowing collectors to make them worth copying compared to better known medieval stuff like suits of armor, weapons, and religious icons. You can buy ancient keys dating back to 2nd-3rd century Rome online for a couple of hundred bucks.
I don't think unknowing collectors are copying the keys because they have no idea what the key would be for. However, the Grimms could have had fakes made. We know there are 9 keys where originally there were supposed to be 7.
