There's a huge difference between a helpless child and a fully grown Grimm whom she already returned to and knew was very capable. Remember how impressed Kelly was when she found out that Nick was the Grimm who mailed back the heads of two Reapers and she also saw him fight with her own eyes.
Besides, Kelly only expected to have Nick's help temporarily. She didn't know the history between him and Adalind. It was Adalind running to Renard that upped the danger factor. She never expected Nick to be in any serious danger and only later returned when she thought he was in a life or death situation.
That's a lukewarm excuse at best. When I questioned why Kelly perpetrated the lie that she was dead until Nick was 30 years old, I was told that it would just be too dangerous for Kelly to reveal herself to him. Now you're stating Nick is no longer a child and she needed his help.
She didn't need his help. She'd left him almost 20 years ago with the terrible news that she was dead. Surely during those two decades Kelly had developed methods of keeping herself safe and out of sight. That would include safe houses in various locations which could accommodate her, Adalind, and the baby.
Like syscrash states, Kelly can't be admired for keeping her son safe for almost two decades, and then decide out of the blue to bring a boatload of problems on Nick and Juliette.
