I don't know about that. Telling Sean he'd leave his office if he was really there and pointing out to him that people are watching him talk to someone who isn't really there doesn't sound to me like trying to convince Sean he's real.
I think perhaps Meisner is trying to put Sean in a place where he no longer knows if anything he sees or hears is real or not.
