A lot people complain that Nick is "corrupt" when he goes outside the limits of his position as a cop, but here's an occasion when he didn't. Nick, Hank and Wu ran this case totally within the lines and by the book. Nick didn't go Grimm and cut off the suspect's head or deliberately execute him in some other way when he didn't have to. They even Mirandized him, even though they did kind of mangle the wording. And when he and Hank saw the beginnings of the parental discord that will eventually warp little Auggie into becoming a murderer, Nick didn't bend or break any rules to involve himself in their family life when the husband refused to accept his advice. He did what every cop who sees a situation he has no legal authority to interfere in has to do: walk away and hope he can be more effective on the next case. And, of course, people are complaining about that.
