Part of the ongoing drama from season to season is that the characters have to react to circumstances and make decisions about what to do on the fly, because they get little or no guidance from higher authorities. Otherwise, the series would just be "Law and Order: PDX."
Re: your and others argument (as in opinion, not that you are being unruly).
Here is what I do not get (in terms of you reasoning).
(Point #1) Renard stated when asked about how much crime is committed by wesen related , his reply was something to the affect of: "almost all of it".
(Point #2) I think we can assume that Nick had been a LEO for some time and worked his way up the ranks, ergo we can assume he was able to be an effective police officer, who was then promoted to detective and was also a successful detective prior to the start of the series.
(Point #3) If Nick was a successful police officer he must have been capable of solving crimes an doing police work that involved wesen prior to his becoming a Grimm.
When you take these three points together it begs the question if he could do his job before (and I assume he was not going around blowing suspects away, framing people for murder, planting evidence, violating people's civil rights, torturing them, intimidating people, coercing confessions, denying suspects their Mitanda rights, breaking and entering, not having probable cause etc, etc. So why can he no longer do his job without violating people's rights enshrined in the rule of law?
Why is it before he was a Grimm Nick could be an effective police officer but now as a Grimm he can no longer do his job in a lawful manner? And why is it other officers(Wu and Hnak) are so willing to throw away the rule of law and become rouge cops? They are not Grimms.
I really do not get this. It makes no sense to me.
Oxford commas are so totally rad!.
