Hi jsgrimm. Let me answer you post since I think it very interesting.
Let me explain why I partially disagree with this part. I see your point about this being only fantasy and I agree with this view about grimm.
But talking about stories in general, it is never only fantasy. I think that stories are important for human kind that even a pure fantasy stories has real implications for those who read/see the stories and for those who write the stories. This is a very big theme but just to contextualize, I think that even if the writers don’t care about morality, I think that they consciousness or unconsciousness write based on their own experience, personality and morality. If you think about TV shows it is written to have views which means the writers will try to write something that more and more people will like and them will want to see. That is why I believe that one way or another the morality of TV shows reflects the morality of those who write and those for whom the stories are written.
We may discuss how deep or how accurate this reflection is. Maybe one TV show will try to reflect what the viewer’s really want to see. Maybe another TV show will try to reflect just part of it. But some base on reality it will always have.
I can write some examples: Greek mythology is used nowadays so we can try to understand ancient Greek society. For a long time (at least in Brazil) many girls wanted to find the charming prince and marries him influenced by the fairly tails, even fairly tails being totally fantasy.
This point I agree... and that is exactly what I mean when I say stories has a moral impact even when the storie is only fantasy.

I don't (my opinion) writers of fiction are not making a moral point but only an entertainment point. If we see morality in the this it is us not the writers. and because it is us then we can see what we want. If you are me you see none others see somethings. Granted some movie and TV are make to show us moral questions and to make us think about them but now days very few again my opinion.

This would be because I might see something that goes against my key word my moral compass, and what I wanted them to learn, I might even ask how they seen it. As my children and even my grandchildren are grown now it is up to them to make the choices and I can only hope they make the right one.
