Kelly was at it for much longer. It's the same reason I don't mind Harry Potter not even coming close to Dumbledore and some of his teachers or Jon Snow not being the best warrior although the show has hyped him up way too much. Kelly only dropped in a couple of times so she wasn't continually stealing the spotlight and she and Nick worked very well together.I am sure at the top of the "profession" of enforcer, fixer, assassin for hire, whatever, the pay for a job well done would be good but not steady. The manacoree may have been having a really good week in Portland. Others probably would be willing to take any job, do a good job and you may get better jobs down the line. It would not be steady, lots of time off. Kelly still took a corpse's wade of bills, the manacore did not. Kelly said she hunted her husband's killers for years, some source of income would be needed to cover transportation, housing(flea bag hotels aren't free), food- ramen noodles cost money. We can only speculate. Even if there was a season 8, and Kelly was still alive, I doubt she would have discussed it with Nick.
I liked Kelly just as much as anyone but I have no doubt she would've been nerfed had she become a regular. Defeating the WotW would have been too easy had she remained at the same level or there would've been contrived reasons for her not to get involved.
I'm now wondering how often Kelly took big jobs. It wouldn't surprise me if she mostly did smaller operations and only took on the big ones on special occasions.
