Did you think Kirstie Alley's acting was spectacular in The Wrath of Khan? I'm just curious about your reaction.
Saavik is not a pure bred Romulan. She's not even half Romulan. For TWOK she was changed to a full blooded Vulcan. She is also a lieutenant and a trainee. In answer to your question, yes, I believe she should be quite restrained. It's in her blood. The other trainees were and many of them were human. She's in the presence of an Admiral who's judging performance. Had Khan not come along, she probably would have been back on some station doing whatever it was she did prior to being assigned to Enterprise.
So Kirstie Alley never acted prior to the Wrath of Khan. Well, that says a lot about what we see on screen. Maybe the half Romulan background was thrown out because it was too complex for a very green actress. She might not have been able to effectively portray a Romulan. Like I said, she was not terrible. She was okay. She just wasn't very Vulcan.
Speaking of Saavik, it doesn't appear Robin Curtis had much experience in the acting chops department either. However, her portrayal of Saavik is much more in line with being a Vulcan than Kirstie Alley's version.
