That was where my idea of "ISS Enterprise" came in. If we reject the traditional science fiction model in which the landing party exists in this tiny localized bubble of their original reality that the Guardian is maintaining, then perhaps in the new reality the tech behind tricorders, phasers, communicators, etc., still exists, just not on a friendly starship anywhere they could call on for help. "Gone" could mean wiped out of existence, or just changed so much they wouldn't recognize it and wouldn't want to live in it. Which would be a pretty good version of "totally alone" as well in my book.
